Comfy Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data Comfy uses, why it is used, what leaves the device, and how you can delete it.
1. Data Comfy uses on your device
Everything in this section is processed and stored on the phone.
Installed apps and usage
Comfy reads the list of installed apps and, when you grant usage access, Android usage statistics. It uses them to sort the app drawer and to suggest recent, frequent, and time-of-day apps. The resulting pattern is kept in the app’s own storage and is never uploaded.
Contacts
If you allow contact access, Comfy reads contact names, phone numbers, and the starred flag to show favourite contacts on Home, to find people in search, and to open the phone app. Comfy also counts how often you call a contact so it can rank them. Contacts never leave the device.
Layout and settings
Home pages, groups, theme, text size, grid density, temperature unit, app-drawer options, the emergency number you set, and your last eight searches are stored in the app’s own storage. You can clear the search list from the search screen. Comfy also reads the colours of your wallpaper to pick readable text; it does not read the wallpaper image itself.
2. Data that leaves the device
Weather
If you allow location access, Comfy sends your coordinates — rounded to four decimal places — and your language to OpenWeather to fetch the forecast. The city name is resolved by Android’s own geocoder. Comfy keeps no location history; it caches the latest result so the same place can be shown again.
News
The news tab makes one request to Comfy’s own news service at appsgenz.vn/news/v1/feed. The URL carries no locale and no device identifier. The service sits behind Cloudflare, which reports the country of the requesting IP address, and the request is redirected to that country’s ready-made list. Everyone in a country receives the same list; no per-user profile is built. Comfy never contacts publishers to assemble the list.
Thumbnails, links, and search
News thumbnails load directly from the publisher’s image host. Tapping a story opens it in the browser installed on your phone, and a web search is handed to your phone’s default search app. Comfy has no built-in browser — the in-app private browsing feature of earlier versions has been removed. Those services see your IP address, user agent, and what you asked for.
Analytics
Comfy sends a Firebase Analytics screen-view event naming its own screen (splash, onboarding, home, search, app drawer, news, settings, system settings). No screen contents, app names, contacts, or search terms are included. Google’s SDK adds its standard data, such as an app instance identifier, device model, OS version, the approximate region derived from the IP address, and — on devices that provide one — the Android advertising ID.
Crash reports
When the app crashes or catches an error, Firebase Crashlytics sends the stack trace, device and OS state, and an installation identifier so the fault can be fixed.
Purchases
Comfy uses Google Play Billing to show available Pro plans, start a purchase, confirm its status, and restore access. Comfy receives the product ID, purchase status, acknowledgement status, and a purchase token linked by Google Play to the product and purchasing Play account. Google Play processes your payment method and does not share full payment details, such as your card number, with Comfy. Comfy does not send these purchase details to its own server or attach a Comfy account or profile identifier to the transaction.
3. Permissions
Contacts, location, notifications, and usage access are optional. Declining one turns off that feature and nothing else.
- Contacts: favourite contacts, contact search, calling.
- Location: local weather.
- Notifications: a confirmation notice once you allow them.
- Usage access: recent, frequent, and time-of-day app suggestions.
- Internet: weather, news, thumbnails, Google Play purchases, analytics, and crash reports.
- Notification shade: lets a pull-down on Home open the system shade. Granted at install; no data is read.
- Default home app: optional; you can change it any time in Android settings.
4. Third-party services
- OpenWeather: weather data.
- Google Firebase: Analytics and Crashlytics.
- Google Play: product offers, payment processing, purchase records, subscriptions, and purchase restoration.
- Cloudflare: sits in front of Comfy’s news service and supplies the caller’s country.
- News publishers and their image hosts: the story you open and the thumbnail beside it.
- Your browser and default search app: whichever ones you have set on the phone.
These services may receive your IP address, user agent, request details, and information you submit to them. Their own privacy policies apply.
5. Storage, retention, and deletion
- Local data stays on the device until it is replaced or deleted.
- You can clear the search list in the search screen, and remove Home items, groups, and the emergency number inside the app.
- You can delete everything in Android Settings → Apps → Comfy → Storage → Clear data, or by uninstalling Comfy.
- Analytics and crash data are held by Google Firebase under its retention settings. Uninstalling stops new data; write to us to request deletion of the data tied to your installation.
- Comfy does not store purchase records on its own server. It asks Google Play for current purchases and keeps the returned details only in memory while needed to provide or restore Pro access.
- Google keeps Play purchase and subscription records under its own policies. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play. Clearing Comfy’s data or uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription or delete Google’s transaction record.
- Some general settings may be included in Android device backup. The launcher’s own preference file, contact usage, favourite contacts, and the weather cache are excluded.
- Comfy has no account and no server-side profile to delete. The news service stores no per-user data.
6. Ads and purchases
Comfy has no advertising. Comfy Pro is optional and is available through Google Play as auto-renewing monthly or annual subscriptions and as a one-time lifetime purchase. Eligible Play accounts may receive a free trial. Google Play shows the applicable price, trial, billing period, and renewal terms before you confirm. You can continue using Comfy Free without purchasing. Manage or cancel subscriptions through Google Play; uninstalling Comfy does not cancel an active subscription.
7. Sharing and policy changes
Comfy does not sell personal data. Data is sent only when a feature described above needs it, or when required by law. This policy will be updated whenever the app’s data practices change, and the effective date will change with it.
